DWLSDI forms and organizes Self-Help-Groups (SHGs) in all communities and localities. It offers SHGs assistances, supports and trainings to workers and organization for their improved wellbeing and performances. It familiarizes SHG members with the requirements of their professions or trades. DWLSDI form SHG around common goals, such as promotion of social and economic interest of members. They are also formed based on mutual help and collective actions. These are considered by DWLSDI as what binds them together and give them strengths. When individual among the low income people come together as community members with commonality of interest they can experience dramatic changes in their lives. The key activities of theSHG include member’s empowerment, capacity building through training, credit and saving opportunity to members. It also promotes health and child care of members.
Self-Help-Groups (SHGs) Activities: All members are to be treated equally and no preferential treatment for any member, groups, classes, tribe, gender, occupation etc. The size of each of the group is from 15 to 20 members. Each group norms, regulations and rules are to be agreed upon to promote attendance at meetings, regularity in savings, loan repayment, discipline and others. Decisions are to be taken based on consensus involving all members. All members are groomed to take and occupy leadership positions. Leaders are to be elected by all members of the group and all elective positions should be rotated among members.
